Abstract
Climate change is already affecting the world food chain and threatening the
economy of nations as well as the wellbeing of millions of people in
developing countries. It is therefore imperative that we scale up efforts to
address it now. The role of agripreneurship in enhancing climate change
resilience agriculture can never be overestimated in the economy of nations.
Investing in agripreneurship for climate change resilience economy is
investing for eco-friendly environment, job creation opportunities, high rate
of living standard, economic growth and stability, better communities and
brighter earth for our future generations. Nigeria is blessed with many abundant
agricultural resource base.
There are over 2000 agro resource base materials that can be commercially grown and
processed into acceptable competitive products, goods and services through
agripreneurship program in Nigeria.
Through the activities of agripreneurship, leaders and entrepreneurs of clusters of
industries at AgriSME levels involved in production, handling, processing, marketing etc. will emerge to help stabilize and grown the economy. Agripreneurship curriculum
development and introduction at tertiary institution levels would help achieve these
objectives. World Bank activities through their programs in Nigeria should reflect the
importance of agripreneurship for the nation’s economic growth. Nigeria’s agricultural
policies should be strengthened and designed to reflect green economy for food security, environmental safety and employment generation, and at same time encourage in-depth research in the subject matter.
